Excavation and Foundation
The hole was dug and crushed stone was placed as footing, drainage, and radon venting. Pre-fabricated, insulated concrete panels were craned in to create a foundation and basement.

Framing
The structure was erected using traditional stick framing. It sure does help to have a few great friends who are as excited (or sometimes more) about house building as me.

Concrete Work
Garage slab. All the soil and sub-base work was mine, but the pour and finishing were contracted out to the pros.

Roofing
I am doing this entirely on my own. Not sure I recommend, as this is some hot, sweaty, and tricky work.

Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical
These trades were subcontracted, mostly. I did dig the underground electrical service entry trench with a friend of mine. Here you can see the all-in-one “magic box” HVAC unit I’m using for heating, cooling, fresh air ventilation, heat recovery, and humidity tempering. I got the shower pan ready for rough inspection, and I’ll be doing the tile work myself.

Insulation
I’m doing all interior insulation myself, plus some of the exterior continuous insulation details. Itchy, itchy work, but essentially easy.

Drywall and Interior
Drywall was a great project for someone else. Paint was a great choice for me and my help.

Near Completion
It’s all coming together now. Most of the painting is done, the decks are put together, and the place is livable. It’s not quite all shined up, but with a little more detail work, it’ll get there.

Done.
